How the Mixed style works

Mixed uses a 70-character ramp instead of ten, with a touch of noise so flat areas don't band, and switches to ▓ and █ blocks where the ink is densest. The extra steps between light and dark make it the most tonal of the character styles.

Best for

Photographs with smooth gradients — skies, skin, soft lighting.

Tips

  • Works best with small cells, where the long ramp has room to show.
  • Pair with a gentle tone curve rather than heavy contrast.
  • Background → Solid Black keeps the characters crisp.
